Elicro Weighted Base Free-standing base, no floor drilling

The ballast base makes the Elicro sail umbrella freestanding — no drilling required. What holds it steady is the weight of the base plus the slabs you load inside: designed for spots where drilling isn't possible or where you'd rather not, like a patio, poolside or any flooring you don't want to damage.

  • Keep Elicro steady without drilling the floor: an alternative to ground anchoring, ideal where you can't or won't cut into the concrete slab.
  • 43 1/4" × 43 1/4" plate in corrosion-resistant galvanized steel: 110 lbs empty with the cover.
  • Four 1 3/16" adjustable feet: level out uneven ground and keep Elicro flat even on irregular patios.
  • Standard slabs not included, available off the shelf: 4 slabs of 19 3/4" × 19 3/4".

Product Overview

What is the ballast base for

If you want to position Elicro in a place where drilling is not possible, for example a terrace you want to preserve, a poolside, or an apartment building, the ballast base makes it self-supporting, with no need to anchor it to the floor.

You ballast it with simple concrete slabs, available at any DIY store: place the plate, arrange the slabs, level with the feet and close with the cover, with no need for specialist labour.

FAQ

FAQ

It keeps Elicro firmly in place without drilling into the floor: it's the alternative to floor anchoring with wall plugs (included with Elicro), where the weight of the ballast does the job that holes in the concrete would do.

No. It is an optional accessory, available separately, if you want to install Elicro without drilling into the floor.

Perfect for patios, balconies, and surfaces you can't or don't want to drill into: tiled floors, condo installations, and poolside areas.

43″ × 43″ × 3″, 110 lbs empty with the lid. With the required ballast weights, the complete system with Elicro reaches approximately 440 lbs.

The frame is made of galvanized anti-corrosion steel and the cover is powder-coated steel, the same treatment as Elicro: it won’t rust and is perfectly suited for coastal areas.

The powder-coated iron cover protects the ballast weights and gives the base a clean, finished look. It's removable, so you can easily access the slabs whenever needed.

Yes, slightly: with the ballast base, Elicro stands 8'2" tall, compared to 7'10" with the floor anchor.

No, ballast weights are not included. You'll need 4 slabs measuring approximately 20" x 20", about 44 lbs each (176 lbs total). The base comes with a lid and feet, ready to receive them.

They are standard concrete slabs, 20" x 20", commonly available at any home improvement store or hardware store. No proprietary replacement parts to order.

Yes, the base accommodates 4 optional 16" × 16" slabs (approximately 26 lbs each). However, they bring the total system weight to around 547 lbs: we do not recommend them for balconies or rooftop terraces, and we reserve them for properly rated concrete slabs or ground-level pours.

With the required ballasts, the complete system weighs approximately 364 lbs per sq ft, a value compatible with standard-compliant slabs (minimum load capacity of 441 lbs per sq ft for habitable floors). For special cases, have the load capacity checked by a structural engineer.

No. The base simply rests on the ground and is weighted down; the 4 adjustable feet, with 1 3/16" of travel, compensate for uneven surfaces and keep Elicro perfectly level.

Virtually none: galvanized steel is maintenance-free. In coastal areas, we recommend a periodic visual inspection and a rinse with fresh water to remove salt residue.
