How to take measurements for your indoor roller shades - step by step
Introduction

There are no standard measurements: every window is different, every space has its own specific characteristics. This guide takes you from the values to be measured to the exact measurement to enter in the configurator, step by step, with no surprises.
What you need before you start:
- Rigid tape measure (preferably metal)
- Pencil and notepad
- Ladder or step stool if the window is high
Custom production range
| Minimum | Maximum | |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 23 5/8 in | 110 1/4 in |
| Height | 11 13/16 in | 118 1/8 in |
1. Before measuring - Choose the installation type
In brief
First decide where to fix the bracket - on the wall or on the ceiling. It is not just an aesthetic choice: the installation type changes the way you measure and, in some cases, solves practical issues you would only discover after fitting.
Before taking any measurements, decide where to fix the bracket. This choice comes before everything else: it affects how you measure and, in some cases, resolves issues you would only notice after installation.

Wall mounting
The bracket is fixed above the window, on the wall. It fully covers the window frame and suits almost every situation. With this mounting, the fabric sits approximately 3 1/8 in from the wall.
Tip: extend the fabric to cover the entire frame and leave at least 2 in on each side beyond the frame. The aesthetic result is much neater.

Ceiling mounting
The bracket is fixed directly to the ceiling. This is the right choice when the wall above the window is insufficient, or when you have a large glazed surface. It gives you more horizontal clearance, which is also useful when there are protruding handles.
Please note: check that the fabric does not touch the window opening handle as it descends.
2. Measure the width
In brief
Start from the width of the glass or the entire frame, add 2 in of overlap on each side, then add the fixed technical clearance for the chosen model: Kyma 1 in per side, Recta 7/8 in per side. The formula gives you exactly the measurement to provide us with.
Measure the width of the glass, or of the entire window frame if you want to cover it fully. The aesthetic result is significantly better.
Then add the overlap: the margin of fabric that extends beyond the window on each side. The recommended standard is 2 in per side.
Then add the technical clearances. Between the edge of the fabric and the bracket there is always a fixed technical gap that depends on the model:
| Kyma | Recta | |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric - bracket clearance (per side) | 1 in | 7/8 in |
| To be added to the width (total) | 2 in | 1 11/16 in |
This value is the same for both the Slim and Standard bracket: what changes is the physical footprint in the room, not the fabric calculation.

The formula
+ 4 in (2 in left overlap + 2 in right overlap)
+ technical fabric/bracket clearance (see table)
= WIDTH MEASUREMENT TO PROVIDE US WITH
Practical example - Kyma bracket, 78 3/4 in window:
+ 2 in overlap per side = 82 3/4 in
+ Kyma technical clearance (1 in × 2) = 84 5/8 in
→ Width measurement to provide us with: 84 5/8 in
Production range: minimum width 23 5/8 in, maximum 110 1/4 in.
3. Measure the height
In brief
Measure from the fixing point (wall or ceiling) to where you want the fabric to reach: the bottom edge of the sill or the floor. You do not need to add or subtract anything: the height you measure is exactly what we need.
Identify the point where you want to fix the bracket (wall or ceiling) and measure from that point to where you want the fabric to reach: the bottom edge of the sill, or down to the floor if you prefer a more enveloping effect.
You do not need to add or subtract anything: the height you measure is exactly what we need.
→ to the bottom edge of the sill, or down to the floor
= HEIGHT MEASUREMENT TO PROVIDE US WITH
Production range: minimum height 11 13/16 in, maximum 118 1/8 in.

4. Installation height from the floor
In brief
This measurement does not concern the fabric: it is used to cut the chain to the correct length. When the installation height from the floor is 78 3/4 in or less, the blind must be motorised - this is a safety requirement under European standard EN 16433:2014.
This information is separate from the fabric height and relates exclusively to safety. With manual blinds we supply a chain to operate the blind. Under European standard (EN 16433:2014), this chain must not be positioned less than 59 1/16 in from the floor - this is a child safety measure.
The practical rule:
| Installation more than 78 3/4 in from the floor | Manual blind possible |
| Installation at 78 3/4 in or less from the floor | Motorised blind required |
The anti-strangulation device is already included with every Maanta manual blind. Always provide us with the installation height when ordering: the chain is cut to measure based on that value.

5. Check for obstacles
In brief
Before finalising your measurements, check that the fabric will not encounter anything as it descends. Every obstacle has a concrete solution - in most cases, simply switching from wall to ceiling mounting is all it takes.
The fabric must not encounter any protruding elements as it descends. Checklist:
- Window handles (especially long lever types)
- Tilt-and-turn systems
- Sill projecting inward
- Wall-mounted ventilation grilles
- Curtains or other already installed systems
If you find an obstacle, here is what to do:
Sill projecting inward
With wall mounting, the fabric sits approximately 3 1/8 in from the wall. If the sill protrudes further, the fabric will rest on it before reaching the bottom.
→ Switch to ceiling mounting.
Long lever handle
Standard handles fall within the 3 1/8 in standard clearance. A particularly protruding lever may be an obstacle.
→ Measure the protrusion and compare it with the 3 1/8 in clearance, or choose ceiling mounting.
Wall-mounted ventilation grille
The fabric must not permanently obstruct the grille.
→ Ceiling mounting above the grille, or size the blind so that it only covers it when lowered.
Multiple side-by-side windows
Even if they look identical, small differences of a few millimetres are normal.
→ Measure each window separately and provide us with the measurements one by one.
6. Got your measurements? Now configure
In brief
With width, height and installation height from the floor in hand, you have everything you need. Open the configurator, enter the measurements and choose the fabric. If you have any doubts, a free video consultation is always available.
At this point you have everything you need to proceed:
- Width - glass + overlap + technical clearance
- Height - from the fixing point to the fabric edge
- Installation height from the floor - for the chain and motorisation
If you have any doubts about the fabric, consult the guide before configuring: you can request free physical samples.
